FAQs/Rules

Why are event dates tentative?

As a condition of special event permits for use of the public lands, we can only list the dates as tentative until we have the actual approved permit for each event. As soon as the permit is approved, we will update the event listing on the website.

How are courses marked?

Courses will be marked using brightly colored ribbons. Wherever a fork occurs in the trail, ribbons will be placed on the side of the trail that corresponds to the direction you are to follow (ribbons on right side - turn right, etc...). When allowed, we will also chalk directional arrows on the ground. It is advisable for all runners to review course maps before the race.

What if I go off course?

Every runner is responsible for staying on course. Don't make the mistake of following someone that is lost. All runners should review the course map prior to the race. Our course markers will work hard to provide clear direction on the trail. If you have passed a fork in the trail and have not seen a course marking ribbon for several minutes, you may want to consider back tracking.

What can I expect at the aid stations?

Water and sport drink, plenty of salty and sweet snacks such as potatoes and salt, bananas, seasonal fruit, energy bars, chips, candies and cookies and salt tabs. At longer events, we will provide real food like broth, PB&J and turkey and cheese sandwiches. All aid stations will be equipped with a basic first aid kit to help with minor injuries such as cuts or scrapes. Aid station volunteers are not allowed to dispense pain medications and the first aid kits will not contain any pain medications such as Advil, Tylenol or Aspirin.

How far to the next aid station?

Aid stations will be located anywhere from 3 to 10 miles apart depending on vehicle access to the trail. All runners should review the aid station mileage chart and course map to prepare. All runners are advised to carry at least one 20 oz. or larger water bottle between aid stations.

What if I need to drop from the race?

If you become injured, ill or are otherwise unable to continue your race, you must report to an aid station worker. Do not rely on others to do this for you. If you have not reported in and a search is mounted to find you, you will be held personally responsible for all search effort costs.

Are headphones allowed?

The use of headphones is discouraged due to safety concerns. If you do use headphones, make sure that you can hear other runners around you. For your safety and the safety of others around you, please turn headphones off when running on narrow single track, when at aid stations and when crossing streets or highways.

General Trail Rules

We are privileged to be able to spend our time enjoying nature while challenging ourselves athletically. All races use trails that are on public lands and sometimes on private property. Trails are open to the public and race participants do not have an exclusive right of way but must share the trails with hikers, bicyclists and horsemen. We are all ambassadors of our sport and responsible to promote a good public image. Any runner reported to bump, fail to yield or force other users from the trail will be disqualified. Any runner reported to litter, damage or destroy vegetation or other natural features will also be disqualified. Our goal is to run hard, have fun and protect the trails for future users.
